Special Needs Dentistry

The perfect care for every need

Not every dentist can care for special needs children, but Dr. Amy Kinlaw Pediatric Dentistry is well equipped and ready to care for patients with special needs. Children with special needs may require not only additional care when it comes to their developing teeth but may need to receive additional care and support when it comes to caring for their teeth.
Our dental offices provide compassionate dental services for children who have conditions such as Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and more.

If you have questions about the best care for your child, call us at 336.568.7700.

Regardless of the needs, our goal remains the same, which is to provide the best dental care for healthy smiles.

Overcome barriers together

The most pressing concern for children with special needs is helping them to brush their teeth independently. Teaching the basics of how to brush their teeth often presents obstacles. Our team works with parents and caregivers and will help your amazing children to ensure they can receive the care they need.

We have developed a proven five-step program to determine the level of care they need. After which we can provide additional specific recommendations for your child.

  1. Determine patients’ abilities by asking them to demonstrate how they would brush their teeth – and provide specific recommendations based on the results.
  2. Provide a hands-on demonstration that shows parents and caregivers the best way to brush their children’s teeth.
  3. Change toothbrush handles to facilitate ease of use.
  4. Supply other dental aides such as floss holders and unique toothbrushes.
  5. Provide preventative fluoride and antimicrobial treatments in addition to supporting the child’s oral health.

Discover a stress-free environment

Children with special needs can find certain unfamiliar sights, sounds, and even lighting to be stressful and overwhelming. Special needs children must feel safe in their environment before they have their appointment, and it is our goal to build that trust.

Dr. Amy Kinlaw Pediatric Dentistry works to minimize stress so your child can get the care that they need. If you have questions about a treatment plan, call our offices today at 336.568.7700
